ALUMNI BLUE RIBBON PANEL EXCITED ABOUT PROGRESS
Journeys, trips, expeditions, and excursions usually have several things in common. Each requires movement and action, and each allows for amazing transformations. Third, its always more fun when you experience it with friends and loved ones.
And so it is with your Alumni Association. In my last article, I discussed the Blue Ribbon Panel work and talked of hopes and promise. Today, I write about progress and the transformation of our alumni programs. Those hopes and promises are becoming realities for Lynchburg College and its alumni.
Evidently, many alumni accepted my invitation to return for Homecoming 2006. It was a fantastic weekend, and even though Shellenberger Field was not complete, campus was gorgeous, and hundreds of alumni spent quality time with classmates, faculty, and current LC students. You could feel the sense of celebration, community unity, and LC pride in all corners of the Dell. For those who attended, thank you for making it one of the best alumni weekends in recent history.
For those who did not attend, we will look forward to seeing you next year!
In recent weeks, there have been more new developments you should be excited to embrace. While many of you journeyed to Lynchburg for the festivities, many more alumni are not able to travel back to central Virginia for get their LC fix. And so we offer Alumni Clubs.
Alumni Clubs are geographically-based groups of volunteers who have an interest in strengthening LC through hosting special events in their own communities. Currently, the Alumni Board and a host of volunteer leaders are working diligently to recruit more alumni to help plan fun and energizing activities in Atlanta, central Virginia, Richmond, and Washington, D.C. We will be expanding our drive for new volunteers in other areas soon, so please let us know if you are interested in helping in this important way.
And even more alumni will be interested in the Alumni Association’s plan to launch an online community in 2007. With support from the College’s senior administrators and Board of Trustees, the Alumni Board has taken the first steps on the path to providing a virtual LC alumni center on the Internet. When the service is launched, you will have the ability to build your own LC network in a secure online environment. From finding out where all your buddies from Zoo or Jungle are today, to reconnecting with your old college bandmates, to sharing your own personal news and photo albums with LC friends, the soon-to-be-launched LC Alumni Online Community will allow you to do it. Most importantly, it will make it easy and enjoyable!
I hope you have decided to take an active role in making these opportunities successful. We are working hard to bring you services that have meaning to your every day life. Let us know how we are doing. If you have feedback or want information about any of the opportunities I have mentioned, please contact the Office of Alumni Programs at alumni@lynchburg.edu. The team there -- Matt Brandon, associate vice president; Tom Cassidy ‘73, director of alumni programs; George Grzenda ’71, ’73, associate director of alumni programs; and Betty Howell, administrative assistant -- join me in their readiness to welcome you to the new LC Alumni Association.
Now go out and find some LC friends, determine what role you want to take in making your Alumni Association’s activities the most enjoyable experience possible, and meet us at Homecoming or Westover Alumni Society Weekend, a future Alumni Club event, or online. I know you will quickly remember just how fun and rewarding it is when Lynchburg College is part of your life’s journey.
