Today has been full of meetings on campus.  That has allowed me to be on campus as nearly 200 members of the Class of 2011 visit for orientation, meet their future roommates, choose their first college classes, and otherwise take another major step toward freeing up a room in their parents' home so they can realize their dream of a home spa.

Despite the most oppressive humidity we have experienced this summer, everyone is milling about happily, and parents seem at peace with leaving their precious cargo with this smiling new family of strangers.  And with good reason.  Housing on campus has never been more comfortable, with townhomes, apartment-style living with wonderful kitchens and bathrooms, and homes that allow for a new level of independent living.  Campus is quite a bit greener than usual for this time of summer, and lots of maintenance projects, like repaving all the main roads going through campus, are wrapped up.

For all the tech-savvy, most-accomplished-class ever, large class size pride these students are having instilled in them, at heart, what is most encouraging and rewarding is seeing the veils of concern and uncertainty be pulled away with the revelation that LC is such an easy place to make friends, get involved, and tromp across the Dell care-free, slightly sweaty, and with the world of possibilities in front of you.
