Central Virginia Alumni Club helps new students and families settle in.
Today and tomorrow, the highly-accomplished class of more than 600 freshmen move in to residence halls, learn how to navigate campus, register for classes, and otherwise take their first steps into their new lives as college students.

At the same time, their parents will meet campus administrators, learn about the logistics of being an LC parent, and get a taste of their new home-away-from-home here in central Virginia.

LC alumni are there to greet them when they show up!  For years, the Central Virginia Alumni Club members have hosted a refreshment and information tent behind Tate and Montgomery halls to help keep people cool, and to welcome our future alumni and their families.

While a group of about 15 alumni will volunteer over the next two days, here is the group that got the two-day move-in experience started

This year, an alumna entrepreneur, Becky Ryan Myers '02, also is participating in a separate event as a service provider.  Her business, ShowYaCare.com, provides care packages for weary students and others who need a little treat to celebrate, motivate, or encourage them through the day.

Its great to see more alumni participate and engage in the life of the College.  We hope to see you on campus soon.

I regret I won't be able to provide pictures or notes from campus tomorrow, but I will join George Grzenda '71 '73 M.Ed., Gene Frantz '71 and Tom Cassidy '73 in North East, MD, in support of the Greg Holland '89 Memorial Golf Tournament, complete with a post-golf crab feast.  Expect to hear from me while I am in Maryland.  Its a fantastic event sponsored by Greg's TEP fraternity brothers, and about 60 of them will be participating.  Expect to read more about the alumnus who owns the host golf club, and the event's organizer.

Matt - How many active members are there in the Central Virginia Alumni Club, and will they have a tent at HC.

Jim, thanks for writing. There are more than 6,000 alumni in the CVAC, and they did have a tent on campus for the dedication of Shellenberger Field in April.

Because of the much higher volume of activity on campus during Homecoming weekend, we don't know if they will have a tent, but they will have a presence.

And if you're interested, they will be supporting a lecture by alumnus Paul Kelbaugh '71 in mid-September by hosting a reception prior to Paul's presentation.

Check the CVAC Alumni Club page for more details. And again, thank you for writing.
